This is mostly due the non-linear nature of the game. The only real downside to BotW is that the bosses and dungeons aren’t as good as previous Zelda titles. There are so many shrines each with their own unique puzzles that get your brain working. There are tons of Korok seeds, collectibles, for the completionists. It has a fun cooking mechanic that made my wife super happy (though I did not have much patience to cook food). It has fantastic combat that appeals to the action-oriented. Still, there isn’t much else wrong with it.īreath of the Wild is also a fantastic game that delivers to an even broader base. On the downside, the game is short, taking about 10 hours or so to complete. It really feels like a perfect Sonic game. The game delivers on 2D old school gameplay and 3D gameplay that makes my heart happy. The levels are well-designed and Sonic’s speed is felt. Sonic Generations is a finely-tuned game that delivers on so many levels. Breath of the Wild is a fantastic game of exploration and puzzles that breaks free of many of the franchise staples, such as bosses that are defeated by a key item located in their dungeon, but also gives the franchise a breath of fresh air (heh) by providing so many options while giving an epic tale with voice acting.

Once again, Zelda did not fail to deliver. Zelda took my heart with Wind Waker, but I backtracked into previous entries, such as Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. On the flipside, bad Zelda games essentially don’t exist (assuming they were made by Nintendo). A great game full of amazing content that makes fanboys happy. Fast forward many years and we get the hit game, Sonic Generations, which celebrated many years of gaming while being a Sonic game that we deserved, unlike previous flops such as Sonic ’06 (which I actually enjoyed). I played a ton of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 and was intensely happy. I grew up on the Sonic Gamegear games and on the Dreamcast. Given that and that Sonic and I are the same age, he’s been close to my heart for a long time. He had better cartoons and better buddies.

I was always much more of a Sonic guy while growing up than a Mario guy.
